HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- Christopher Newport University posted its highest hitting percentage in 10 years in a 3-0 win (25-14, 25-12, 25-12) over Nazareth (N.Y.) University Saturday in the Juanita College Asics Invitational in Huntingdon, Pa.
The Captains' attack efficiency of .420 was the program's best since Sept. 19, 2015, when they hit .494 in a three-set win over DeSales (Pa.) University. CNU had a .552 percentage with only three errors in Saturday's first set.
Samantha Dorn led CNU with 15 kills (five per set) and a percentage of .545. Freshmen
Emmy Carpenedo finished with nine (.571), giving her 21 in the Invitational's three games.
Simara Alexander added eight (.500), and rookie setter
Fielding Croft had 31 assists.
CNU never trailed at any point of the match against the Golden Flyers. The Captains jumped out to leads of 12-6 in the first, 12-4 in the second and 12-6 in the third.
CNU's dominant performance came right after losing to No. 9 Johns Hopkins in three sets (25-22, 25-17, 25-19).
Alyssa Dozier had nine kills (.333) along with four blocks. Carpenedo had five kills and seven digs.
The first set had six ties, the final coming at 22-22 on a kill by Dozier. The Blue Jays closed out the set with three consecutive points.
The Captains scored the first point of the second set but never led again. Hopkins (9-2) took command by turning an 8-7 edge into a 15-7 advantage.
The Blue Jays never trailed in the third set. CNU staved off three match points before Ivy Swafford's kill gave Hopkins the win.
At the conclusion of the event, Dozier was named to the Juniata Asics Invitational All-Tournament Team:

After the spending last two weekends on the road, the Captains will return to the Freeman Center to host Haverford (Pa.) College Friday at 7 p.m. On Saturday, CNU will go against No. 23 Virginia Wesleyan at 2 p.m. and Regent University at 5 p.m.
