NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Four matches were played at the James T. and Sarah C. Eyre Courts on Saturday as part of the 2025 CNU Duals. The Captains took on opponents from Division I Longwood University on day two while Hampton University, Mary Washington, and Virginia Wesleyan all participated as well. 

On the second day, Rainer Christiansen and Nathan Russell secured the lone victory for CNU with a 6-2 win in doubles play. The Captains' tandem defeated senior Gary Huang and sophomore Peter Lindquist from the Lancers' roster. 

Nesh Kumaresan and Gabe Smith battled in their matchup against Daniel Lopez and Alejandro Uribe but suffered a 7-5 setback. The final doubles match saw Barrett Foster and Vincent Truong suffer a 6-4 loss to Timeo Puech and Marko Mrdak. 

In singles play, Kumaresan stretched his opponent, Rufus Plane, to a seventh game in both sets. In the first, Plane escaped with a 7-5 win before needing a tiebreaker to down the Captains' veteran in a 7-5, 7-6 (7-3) final. 

Christiansen played well against the Division I opponent in singles as well, securing a second set victory, 6-0, but wound up dropping a three-set match to Daniel Lopez. Final score was 7-5, 0-6, 10-5. 

Gabe Smith picked up seven games in his two set loss to the Lancers.
