2025 Schedule

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. --
After making the team's fourth straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament last fall, the Christopher Newport field hockey program will return to action with an exciting schedule in 2025, which features nine opponents that joined the Captains in last year's postseason and seven squads that finished 2024 ranked in the top-25.

Among the team's upcoming contests, CNU will face rematches against St. Mary's (Md.), York (Pa.), and Salisbury, who all battled the Captains during last year's NCAA Tournament. The program will also square off with Williams, who went on to join Salisbury in the Final Four.

In addition to those foes, Johns Hopkins and Messiah also reached the Elite Eight last season, while Rowan, Ohio Wesleyan, and Stevens all made appearances on the national stage as well.

The 2025 schedule also features eight home games, including the aforementioned battles with Salisbury, St. Mary's (Md.), and Rowan during a riveting three-week stretch of action in October.

Christopher Newport will open the season at home on August 29 against Bridgewater, who will serve as CNU's lid-lifter for the fifth time since 2015. Following a neutral-site showdown against Johns Hopkins on August 31 in Fredericksburg, Virginia, the team will return to Jennings Family Stadium for back-to-back match-ups against Washington and Lee on September 7 and Virginia Wesleyan on September 10.

Following the local contests, the squad will hit the road for lengthy road trips to Ohio and New Jersey. In the Buckeye State, the Captains will trade blows with Ohio Wesleyan on September 13 and Denison on September 14. Then, after another neutral-site contest in Fredericksburg against Messiah, Christopher Newport will head to the Garden State for tilts against Montclair State on September 27 and Stevens on September 28.

On October 1, CNU will open the month at home against Catholic before a quick jaunt to Pennsylvania for a game with York on October 4. After home games with Rhodes on October 5 and Salisbury on October 8, the Captains will head to the Northeast for a pair of thrilling duels. For the first time in program history, the squad will take on perennial power Williams in Massachusetts on October 12 before continuing its recent rivalry with SUNY New Paltz in New York on October 14.

Marching towards the end of the regular season, Christopher Newport will host St. Mary's (Md.) on October 22 and Rowan on October 25 before traveling to longtime rival Mary Washington on October 29.

The Captains are coming off of a 2024 campaign in which the team produced a 16-3 record and wrapped up the year ranked sixth in the final NFHCA National Coaches Poll. Along the way, CNU advanced to the Elite Eight for the third time in school history.
