Prior to Saturday's contest, Christopher Newport will hold its annual Senior Day celebration to recognize the accomplishments of the program's fourth-year members. Together,
Maelyn Eversole,
Maggie Lockard,
Alexa Romero,
Madi Rozgonyi,
Maddie Rusinko, and team manager
Hannah Calliott have helped the program post 43 wins since 2022.Â
Making the most of their time on the field, this year's senior class has led the program to a pair of NCAA Tournament appearances, including a trip to the third round in 2024. For their efforts, they have spent 23 weeks ranked in the IWLCA National Coaches Poll, climbing as high as 14th in the country.
So far this season, Eversole ranks third in the league with 19 assists, while Rozgonyi is seventh with 21 caused turnovers. Last week, Rozgonyi also became just the second Captain in program history to eclipse 100 career takeaways, while Rusinko sits ninth on the all-time list with 76 strips. Among the other veteran contributors, Romero has made a career-high seven appearances this season, and Lockard registered her third career goal with a fourth-quarter rip against No. 2 Tufts last month.
Along with the most experienced members of the program,
Kate Lamendola ranks 44th nationally in free-position percentage with a .625 conversion rate, while
Brookelyn Morrison sits in the top-100 in both takeaways-per-game (2.13) and draw controls-per-contest (5.19). Additionally,
Hadley Chadwick leads the conference with a .453 save percentage and stands 75th nationally with 125 total stops.
Washington and Lee comes into the weekend on a six-game winning streak, including a 25-0 triumph over Averett last Saturday. Featuring a well-balanced squad, the Generals rank 19th nationally in shooting percentage (.510) and 22nd in scoring defense (7.18 goals-against-average). The team has also controlled 60 percent of its draws, which is the 25th-best rate in the country.
On an individual level, Hannah Van Son leads Washington and Lee with 47 points, including 45 goals. Sophie Edwards also has a team-high 16 assists, while Emma Marsh and Cat Caples have 60 draw controls apiece. On the back end, Libby Ford leads the Generals with 30 caused turnovers, and Iman Haddad has a .415 save percentage and 9.08 goals-against-average.
In 18 previous match-ups between the two programs, Washington and Lee holds a 16-2 edge in the series. Last year, the two squads split a pair of bouts as CNU posted a 12-10 win in the season opener before the Generals flipped the script with a 12-10 triumph in the NCAA Regional Semifinals.
