FREDERICKSBURG, Va. --
Kicking off Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference action this weekend, the Christopher Newport women's lacrosse team will head to Mary Washington on Saturday for a 1 p.m. showdown at the Battleground Turf Field.

Entering the contest, CNU sits at 6-8 on the season, including a 5-3 record on the road. Meanwhile, Mary Washington is 10-2 with a pristine 4-0 mark at home.

For those fans unable to attend the game, live stats and a video stream of the action will be available at UMWEagles.com. Direct links to both features can be found at the top of this release and on the schedule page.

Christopher Newport is coming off of a 15-11 victory at No. 17 Roanoke on Saturday. CNU's 15 goals tied the program's second-highest output against a nationally-ranked opponent in school history, while the four-goal win matched the team's most lopsided triumph against a top-20 foe.

During the showdown, Brookelyn Morrison matched the single-game school record with 14 draw controls, while Faith O'Connor deposited five goals, which equaled the most by a Captain against a nationally-ranked squad since 2011. She also became just the seventh player in school history with back-to-back hat-tricks against top-25 competition after landing three blows against No. 21 Denison on March 29.

For their efforts, O'Connor and Morrison swept the league's Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week awards.

Along with the award-winners, Grace Taylor collected her first collegiate hat-trick in the win over Roanoke, while Elena Sorkin chipped in with her fourth of the season. On the defensive side, Hadley Chadwick secured 11 saves and a career-high six ground balls, while Madi Rozgonyi started her 75th consecutive game. That matched the second-longest "Iron Man" streak in school history.

Entering the conference opener on Saturday, CNU has several standouts scattered across the league leaderboard in a variety of categories. Chadwick ranks first in the conference with 112 saves, while Morrison is second with 30 caused turnovers and 71 draw controls. On the offensive end, Kate Lamendola is second with nine free-position goals, Maelyn Eversole is third with 18 assists, and Sorkin is sixth with 24 total strikes.

Mary Washington also boasts some of the league's top performers this season. Allison Carolan ranks first in the conference in both save percentage (.527) and goals-against-average (7.13), while Molly Daw is second with 37 goals and 48 points. As a team, the Eagles are second in the nation in clearing percentage (.914) and 26th in scoring defense (7.25 goals-against-average).

In the squad's last outing, UMW had its six-game winning streak snapped during a 14-5 setback at No. 8 York (Pa.) on Wednesday. However, the Eagles previously knocked off a pair of top-25 opponents after defeating No. 12 Roanoke, 10-7, and No. 18 Denison, 13-11, last month.

In 26 previous meetings between the two programs, Mary Washington holds a 17-9 advantage in the series, although CNU has won the last eight showdowns. Last year, the Captains picked up a pair of wins, including a 13-12 triumph in the league semifinals.

Following Saturday's game, Christopher Newport will return to action on April 19 for a home bout against No. 6 Salisbury at 1 p.m.
