CHESTERTOWN, Md. --
After wrapping up a brief two-game homestand, the Christopher Newport women's lacrosse team will return to the road on Wednesday at 4 p.m. when the Captains travel to Washington (Md.) for a midweek clash at Kibler Field.

Entering the contest, CNU sits at 5-6 on the season, including 4-2 on the road. Meanwhile, Washington (Md.) is 4-5 with a 2-2 mark at home.

For those fans unable to attend the game, live stats and a video stream of the action will be available at WashCollSports.com. Direct links to both features can be found at the top of this release and on the schedule page.

Christopher Newport is coming off a challenging stretch of games in which four of the squad's previous five opponents were listed in the most recent IWLCA National Coaches Poll. Among CNU's latest competition, Tufts is No. 2 in the country, Gettysburg is No. 4, Haverford is No. 23, and Rowan is the top vote-getter among teams outside of the top-25.

On Sunday, the Captains dropped a 15-5 decision to second-ranked Tufts despite outscoring the Jumbos, 5-4, over the final 32 minutes of regulation. Despite the setback, CNU became the first team to hold Tufts to fewer than 17 goals in a regular season bout since last April. The squad had entered the weekend boasting the nation's second-ranked scoring offense.

During the showdown with Tufts, Brookelyn Morrison and Emily Snyder both forced a pair of turnovers, while Hadley Chadwick made nine saves, including six in the second half. The Captains also pushed back against six of the Jumbos' free-position attempts. Chadwick made three saves on eight-meter attempts, while Kate Lamendola and Madi Rozgonyi also blocked shots.

On the offensive end, Maddie Lamy notched a pair of points, while Lamendola, Grace Taylor, Maggie Lockard, and Drew Stanley all added goals of their own. Additionally, Rozgonyi established a new career-high with five draw controls, and Emilie Shoults added four.

Closing in on history, Morrison is two ground balls away from becoming the 23rd Captain to reach the century mark and eight draws shy of 200 for her career. Meanwhile, Chadwick is two saves away from becoming the sixth Captain to record 300 career stops.

Washington (Md.) comes into Wednesday on a three-game winning streak, including a 15-8 win at Dickinson in the Centennial Conference opener last Saturday. During that contest, Mia Salvatierra became the 17th player in program history to reach 100 career goals and 150 points. So far this season, the junior ranks 16th nationally with 49 points and 19th in free position goals-per-game (1.33).

Along with Salvatierra's work on the offensive end, the Shorewomen rank 25th in the country in free position percentage with a .559 conversion rate. Meanwhile, on the back end, McKenna Seashole is 24th in the NCAA with 78 saves. She also boasts a 14.36 goals-against-average.

In six previous meetings between the two programs, Washington (Md.) holds a 6-0 edge in the series. However, the two squads have not met since the Shorewomen recorded an 11-7 triumph in Newport News on February 29, 2020.

After the road trip, CNU will return home on Saturday for an 11 a.m. match-up with No. 21 Denison.
