NEWPORT NEWS, Va. --
Following a two-game road swing, the 24th-ranked Christopher Newport women's lacrosse team will return for a pair of home games this week as the Captains host Rowan on Friday at 3 p.m. before welcoming No. 2 Tufts to Jennings Family Stadium for a noon test on Sunday.

Entering Friday's tilt, CNU sits at 5-4 on the season, including 1-2 at home. Meanwhile, Rowan is 7-0 overall, while Tufts is 5-0. Both squads have also won a pair of road bouts this year.

For those fans unable to attend the games, live stats and video streams of both contests will be available at CNUsports.com. Direct links to both features can be found at the top of this release and on the schedule page.

Christopher Newport is coming off of an action-packed weekend during which the Captains rallied to force overtime in an 8-7 setback at Haverford before completing a come-from-behind victory during a 12-10 triumph at Swarthmore. During the two games, Maelyn Eversole led the Captains with six points, while Hadley Chadwick notched an 8.69 goals-against-average and 18 total saves.

Equally impressive last week, Elena Sorkin recorded her first collegiate hat-trick during the battle against Haverford before notching her third straight multi-goal effort with a pair of strikes at Swarthmore. Meanwhile, Brookelyn Morrison secured 10 draw controls in the latter contest, which equaled the second-highest total of her career.

Along with Morrison's work in the center of the field, the Captains dominated possession during their comeback against Swarthmore. Their 16 draws against the Garnet marked the most in a game this year. Starring down the stretch, the squad collected nine of the 12 draw controls in the second half, including three clutch snags by Emilie Shoults.

Aided by her work this season, Morrison has 186 career draw controls, which ranks fourth in program history. She is just three shy of passing CNU Hall of Famer Kaitlin Quigley for third on the all-time charts. She is also closing in on the century mark in both ground balls and takeaways. Coming into Friday, she is just three rollers and a pair of strips shy of 100 for her career.

Also approaching history, Chadwick has 281 career saves. She is just 19 shy of becoming the sixth player in program history to reach 300 stops. Additionally, she is two wins away from joining former legends Hanna Slough and Gayle Robinson as the only players to record 30 career triumphs.

So far this year, Chadwick ranks 14th in the NCAA with 66 saves, while her 8.36 goals-against-average places her in the top-50 nationally. As a team, Christopher Newport also ranks 47th on the national charts with a .548 free-position percentage, including a pristine 6-for-6 performance by Morrison.

Rowan enters Friday as one of the nation's 20 undefeated programs. Boasting an elite defensive unit, the Profs are first in the nation in save percentage (.629) and fifth in goals-against-average (4.33). Meanwhile, on the offensive end, the team is averaging 17.33 goals per game, which stands 10th in the NCAA.

On an individual level, Mel Rogers is second in the country in save percentage (.655) and seventh in goals-against-average (4.79). Elaina Corson is also 25th with 26 total goals, while Molly Green established a new school standard with her 115th career takeaway last week. The senior star also owns the program record with 312 draw controls.

Featuring an equally pristine 5-0 record, Tufts will face a top-10 match-up on Friday at No. 10 Washington and Lee before making the trip to Newport News on Sunday. Electric on the attack, the Jumbos are second in the nation with an 18.80 goals-per-game average. The squad has also controlled possession while winning 67 percent of their draws. That is the fifth-best rate in the country.

Headlining Tufts' work this year, Pascale de Buren is 14th nationally in goals-against-average (6.07) and 15th in save percentage (.567), while Genna Gibbons is 20th in draw controls-per-game with a 7.60 mark. Margie Carden has also deposited 17 goals, while Allie Zorn is tied for the team-lead with 20 points.

Christopher Newport is 2-0 all-time against Rowan, including a 19-11 win in New Jersey last year. Meanwhile, the Captains and Jumbos have never met in women's lacrosse.

Following the homestand, CNU will return to the road on March 26 for a 4 p.m. tilt at Washington (Md.).
