NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Christopher Newport University standout
Jahn Hines became the first four-time All-American in program history on Wednesday when he was named second team All-American by the National Association of Basketball Coaches. Hines recently completed his senior season, and finished his career in second place on the school's all-time scoring list with 2,086 points.
"Jahn is not only a worthy four-time All-American basketball player, he's a four-time All-American human being," Head Coach
John Krikorian said. "His accomplishments on the court are incredible, and I am so grateful that Jahn chose to play and stay at CNU.
Jahn Hines is a winner in basketball and life, and I am so proud of him for all that he has done, and who he has become. I can't wait to watch him grow even more as he graduates and moves on to the next chapter."Â
Hines previously was named third team All-America by the NABC in 2022, and received fourth team All-America honors from D3hoops.com in 2023Â as well as in 2024. He was named first team All-Region by D3hoops.com, and was also tabbed first team All-District by the NABC on Tuesday.
Hines is one of just 15 men's basketball standouts to receive All-American status in the 57-year history of the men's basketball program. Last year, he joined Lamont Strothers as the only three-time All-American.
His list of career accomplishments includes being named the Player of the Year in the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference for the third time this season, and Hines became just the seventh Christopher Newport men's basketball player to ever have his jersey number retired. Krikorian made the announcement on Senior Day that #22 would never be worn again.
Hines, a product of Norview High School, is the first CNU player to finish his career in the Top 10 in scoring, rebounding, and assists. He played in 123 games, starting 119 times, and average3d 17.0 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game. He led the Captains to an overall record of 104-19 (.846) during his career, which included the program's first National Championship in 2023. He averaged 19.9 points and 7.7 rebounds per contest this year as the Captains concluded the season with a 23-6 record and a trip to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.Â
On Monday, Hines was selected to play in this Saturday's NABC All-Star Game in Fort Wayne, Indiana, prior to the National Championship game. Hines became just the second Christopher Newport player to reach the 2,000-point mark this season, and finished behind only Lamont Strothers on the school's all-time scoring list.
In addition to Hines and Strothers, Christopher Newport's list of All-Americans includes Carl Farris, Buck Moore, Steve Artis, Ted Berry, Jo-Jo Chambers, Andre Bolton, Steve Butler, Antoine Sinclair, Terry Gray, Conley Taylor, Marcus Carter, Tim Daly and Aaron McFarland.Â
