NEWPORT NEWS, Va. --
The 22nd-ranked Christopher Newport women's lacrosse team will face its first nationally-ranked test of the season on Wednesday at 3 p.m. when the Captains host No. 4 Gettysburg in a non-conference contest at Jennings Family Stadium.

Entering the midweek match-up, CNU sits at 4-2 on the season, including 1-1 at home. Meanwhile, Gettysburg is 4-0 overall and 1-0 on the road.

For those fans unable to attend the game, live stats and a video stream of the action will be available at CNUsports.com. Direct links to both features can be found at the top of this release and on the schedule page.

Sitting fourth in the latest IWLCA National Coaches Poll, the Bullets are tied for the highest-ranked opponent to face the Captains in Newport News since No. 1 Salisbury traveled to CNU on April 8, 2014. Since that showdown, Christopher Newport has also hosted Salisbury and Washington and Lee when they were both ranked fourth in the poll.

CNU is coming off of a 14-6 victory at Ursinus on Saturday. Against the Bears, the Captains secured a running clock in the first half after grabbing a double-digit lead in the 26th minute. Although Ursinus eventually chipped away at its deficit in the second half, Christopher Newport sustained at least an eight-goal lead throughout the remainder of the contest.

Flashing a well-balanced attack, 11 different players registered at least one point for the victors, including a career-high four goals from Drew Stanley. Maelyn Eversole also notched five points, including four assists, while Page Henry, Maddie Lamy, and Emily Snyder all scored for the first time this season.

Coupled with her three-assist performance against RPI last Tuesday, Eversole joined former All-American Kelsey Winters as the only Captains to record at least three assists in back-to-back games since 2022. Entering last week, the senior standout had 11 total helpers in her career before erupting for seven during a remarkable five-day stretch.

Carving out her own spot in the history books, Hadley Chadwick was celebrated as the league's Defensive Player of the Week for her performance during CNU's latest victories. She notched seven saves in the 10-5 win over RPI and nine in the 14-6 triumph at Ursinus. With that run, she became just the fifth player in program history to register at least seven saves while surrendering fewer than seven goals in back-to-back appearances. She also became the only Captain in that group to accomplish the feat while playing all 60 minutes in both outings.

So far this season, Chadwick ranks 31st nationally with a 6.92 goals-against-average. Meanwhile, Eversole is 45th in the country with 10 assists, while the entire team ranks in the top-50 with a .552 free-position percentage. Among the squad's leaders from the eight-meter arc, Kate Lamendola has a team-high five free-position tallies, while Brookelyn Morrison is a perfect 4-for-4 on the year.

Entering Wednesday's contest, Gettysburg already has four victories over teams currently ranked in the top-25. The Bullets knocked off No. 7 Salisbury, 12-11, in overtime last Saturday after upending No. 10 Washington and Lee, No. 18 Denison, and No. 23 Messiah earlier in the year. Despite the challenging schedule, the team still ranks 39th in the nation in scoring offense with a 15.00 goals-per-game average.

On an individual level, four players have at least 10 points for Gettysburg, including Julia Daly, who leads the squad with 19. Emily Crane also boasts a team-high 13 goals. Meanwhile, on the back end, Juliette deVareene has an 8.78 goals-against-average and .429 save percentage. In her career, the senior has a 7.72 goals-against-average, which ranks 23rd among active goalies from all three levels of the NCAA.

Wednesday's showdown will be just the second meeting between the two programs after Gettysburg collected a 15-6 win over CNU during the second round of the NCAA Tournament on May 14, 2023. Among the returning headliners from that game, Eversole had a pair of goals for the Captains, while Madi Rozgonyi added a strike of her own. Crane notched two tallies for the Bullets.

Following Wednesday's tilt, Christopher Newport will return to the road for a pair of games this weekend. The Captains will travel to Haverford for a noon battle on Saturday before rolling to Swarthmore for a 1 p.m. game on Sunday.
