NEWPORT NEWS, Va.
- The 2024-2025 regular season comes to a close on Saturday for the Christopher Newport University men's basketball squad. The Captains, ranked tenth in the nation this week, travel to Fredericksburg, Va., to take on the Eagles of the University of Mary Washington. Tip off time is set for 6:00 p.m. at Ron Rosner Arena on the UMW campus.

The Captains are 20-4 and have won their last six games, and 11 of their last 12. John Krikorian's squad is coming off a 71-55 victory over Mary Washington last Saturday at the Freeman Center on Senior Day. Fifth-year All-American Jahn Hines led the way by scoring 22 points and pulling down a career-high 18 rebounds. His brother, junior Collin Hines, also recorded a double-double by scoring 14 points and pulling down a dozen boards.

Jahn Hines, who had his number 22 retired before the start of the game, has now scored 1,954 career points, and is 23 points shy of Steve Artis for second place on the CNU all-time scoring list. Hines is also just 46 points away from the 2,000-point mark, achieved only by Lamont Strothers (2,709 points from 1987-91) in the 57-year history of CNU men's basketball.

CNU concluded its home schedule with a 12-1 mark at the Freeman Center this year, and the 20th victory of the season marked the tenth straight year the Captains have reached the 20-win plateau.

Mary Washington has a record of 11-13 heading into Saturday's action. The Eagles are coming off a 70-65 victory at Salisbury University on Tuesday night. CNU and UMW will be meeting for the 49th time in the all-time series, with the Captains holding a 41-7 edge in the series. Christopher Newport has won the last 13 games following last Saturday's victory.

Christopher Newport games are broadcast live on the Home of the Captains, Xtra 99.1 FM and CNUsports.com. The pre-game show will begin at 5:40 p.m. Saturday. You can listen to the action by clicking the Live CNU Radio link above.

The game video will be streamed live by Mary Washington and links to watch the live stream as well as to follow the live stats are also provided at the top of this story. You can also access the complete CNU Game Notes package with the link provided above.
