NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The nationally-ranked Christopher Newport men's tennis team came out of its date with Rhodes College (0-1) on Friday night with a 6-1 win. The Captains improved to 3-0 with the victory at the James River Country Club indoor courts.

Edvard Porsmyr Hansen each also recorded two wins in the match.
The Captains swept doubles to earn the point and take a 1-0 lead. At No. 1, Truong paired with
Nesh Kumaresan for a hard-fought victory against Oliver Bonovich and Christian Mainella. The CNU duo prevailed in a tiebreaker by a final score of 7-6 (7-5) to help earn the sweep. At No. 2, Christiansen paired with
Ashton Legum for a 6-2 win against Owen Kohler and Topher Thornberry; the No. 3 match was won, 6-3, by CNU when Porsmyr Hansen and Smith downed Conner Lloyd and Paul Fridman.
Moving into singles play, Truong quickly gave the Captains a 2-0 lead with a straight-set victory on the top line over Bonovich (6-2, 6-2). Porsmyr Hansen also rolled to his win at No. 4, defeating Lloyd after surrendering just a single game (6-1, 6-0).
Rhodes earned the win at No. 2 singles but CNU rolled to the remaining wins at No. 3, 5, and 6.
Ryan Monroe defeated Fridman after a first-set loss, bouncing back for a 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 3. Christiansen outlasted his foe at No. 5 in Thornberry (7-5, 7-6 (8-6)) and Smith earned a win against Kohler (6-0, 7-5) at No. 6.
Christopher Newport will return to action on Saturday, February 15 at 4:00 p.m. when they entertain Shenandoah University at the JRCC. Virginia Wesleyan will also play Rhodes at Noon.
