NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The Freeman Center hosts the annual Holiday INNvitational Saturday and Sunday, with two games scheduled for each day in the post-Thanksgiving event. Christopher Newport University will play Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. vs. Dickinson College, and will then play Pfeiffer University on Sunday at 4:00 p.m.
Saturday's action will begin at 5:00 p.m. as Pfeiffer will play Virginia Wesleyan University. The Marlins will play Dickinson on Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
Christopher Newport is riding a two-game winning streak and the Captains are 3-2 entering weekend action.
John Krikorian's squad played at home last Saturday, and defeated Cairn University by a score of 89-82. Junior
Isaiah Dozier is coming off his best game ever as a Captain, following career highs last Saturday with 20 points and 14 rebounds vs. the Highlanders. Four other Captains reached double figures in scoring, and junior
Ethan Ward also registered a double-double with 14 points and ten rebounds.
For the season through the first five games, the Captains have been led by junior
Toa Hollenbeck in the scoring column. Hollenbeck, who posted 11 points all at the line last Saturday, is averaging 15.8 points per game, with junior
Tyson Henderson right behind him at 15.4 per contest. Ward and senior
Collin Hines are leading the way on the boards, both averaging 6.8 rebounds per game. Hines is also scoring 9.8 points per game.
Saturday's game vs. Dickinson will be the fourth in the all-time series, and the Red Devils hold a 2-1 lead through the first three games. The schools last met in the Thanksgiving tourney in November of 2017, when Dickinson posted a 64-54 victory. The Devils are off to a 1-4 start this season, and fell last Saturday at home in Carlisle, Pa., to Washington & Lee University, 75-67.
The Falcons of Pfeiffer University bring a record of 4-3 to the Freeman Center, and will play a Virginia Wesleyan squad that is 3-1 to start the season.Â
Tickets for the games this weekend will be available at the Freeman Center ticket office. Christopher Newport games are broadcast live on the Home of the Captains, Xtra 99.1 FM and CNUsports.com. The pre-game show will begin at 6:40 p.m. Saturday.
