Ninth-Ranked Captains Look to Bounce Back Wednesday Night at North Carolina Wesleyan

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. -
The Christopher Newport University men's basketball team has dropped its last two games, and the Captains look to return to the win column on the road Wednesday night. The Captains, ranked ninth in the pre-season poll from D3hoops.com, take on the Battling Bishops of North Carolina Wesleyan University at Everett Gymnasium. Tip off is set for 7:30 p.m.

Christopher Newport is 1-2 so far, and fell at home to second-ranked Randolph-Macon College last Wednesday night, 71-65, and then suffered an 84-74 defeat at 22nd-ranked Catholic Univwersity on Saturday in Washington, D.C. 

Through the first three games of the new season, John Krikorian's squad has been led in scoring by junior Toa Hollenbeck, who is averaging 15.3 points per game. Hollenbeck is coming off a 27-point performance at Catholic on Saturday that included five first half three-pointers. Junior Tyson Henderson is scoring 13.7 points per game, and senior Collin Hines tops the squad in rebounding with seven per game to go with nine points per outing.

North Carolina Wesleyan enters play on Wednesday with a 3-1 record following a 77-73 road win last Saturday at Randolph College in Lynchburg, Va. John Thompson's team opened the year with wins over Johnson & Wales and Bridgewater in the William Peace Classic before falling at home to Guilford in a high-scoring thriller, 106-102. 

The teams have a long-running series dating back to December of 1970. Wednesday night's renewal will be the 110th all-time meeting, with the Captains holding a 70-39 advantage. The schools were longtime league-mates in the Dixie and later USA South Athletic Conference. The Captains have won the last four games and six of the last seven in the series, including an 85-77 triumph last November 10th at Everett Gymnasium. CNU is 25-23 all-time in games played in Rocky Mount.
