NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Head coach Eric Christiansen has announced the team captains for the 2025-26 season as both Vincent Truong and Alex Seretis have been elevated to the role after serving as junior captains last season. Also named junior captains are Rainer Christiansen and Gabe Smith. 

"Alex and Vincent have been selected by their teammates and coaches to lead the CNU men's tennis program as Captains this year," said Christiansen, Director of Tennis at Christopher Newport. "Their leadership continues the tradition of excellence that has been established in previous seasons. Both have done an exceptional job in fostering a culture that has been a key factor in our success. As seniors, they bring four years of competitive experience, but more importantly, they understand the critical role that cultivating the right team culture plays in achieving overall success."

Truong is one of the most decorated players in program history after collecting conference Rookie of the Year honors in 2023, Player of the Year plaudits in 2024, and Doubles Team of the Year in 2025. A four-time first team All-Conference selection, Truong is also a two-time Academic All-District selection. 

Seretis is playing in his senior season for the Captains and has appeared in 48 matches through his first three. A versatile option in doubles play, the veteran has also secured 23 career wins in singles play. 

"Rainer and Gabe have also been recognized by their teammates for their leadership qualities and potential," said Christiansen. "They will serve as Junior Captains for the season, stepping into roles that will help guide the team in the future."

Christiansen and Smith both enjoyed successful freshman seasons in 2024-25 and return to the rotation this season. Smith was named the C2C Rookie of the Year and earned a team-high 19 wins in doubles play. Christiansen was a C2C All-Academic Team selection and ranked fourth on the team in singles wins during his first year as a Captain. 

Christopher Newport is scheduled to open the 2025 spring season on February 7 against Hampton University at 11:00 am. It will be the first of 19 regular season duals currently scheduled for the Captains.
