LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Christopher Newport men's soccer team, ranked No. 20 in the latest United Soccer Coaches Division III Top 25 poll, will close out a six-game road trip on Wednesday afternoon when the Captains (7-1-3) take on Washington and Lee University at 3:00 p.m.
CNU is 3-1-1 in the first five games of the road swing, which concludes on Wednesday against the Generals. CNU is 3-6-2 all-time against Washington and Lee including a 1-4-0 record on the road. The last trip to Lexington, however, came in 2023 and featured a 2-1 CNU victory including a goal by current senior
Caleb Jones and an assist on the game-winning goal by current senior
Barry Jones.
On Wednesday, fans unable to make the trip to the game in person will be able to view the game live online through a FloSports subscription. Live stats will also be available at gametime and links to both can be found on the men's soccer schedule at CNUsports.com.
The Captains are coming off a week that halted their nine-game unbeaten streak with a loss to Virginia Wesleyan (2-0) before a scoreless draw at Mary Washington (0-0). The defense continues to anchor the team's success with five shutouts and 0.73 goals against average through 11 games this season. Senior goalkeeper
Hayden Dewey is 7-1-3 between the pipes and has played all 990 minutes this season.

Washington and Lee is coming off a 2-0 win on the road against 20th-ranked Virginia Wesleyan and also earned a tie at home against nationally-ranked Hampden-Sydney College. Both came as part of a six-game unbeaten streak that includes another draw against a ranked opponent in Catholic University on September 13. For the year, the Generals are 4-2-4 while boasting an unbeaten 3-0-2 record at their home venue, Alston Parker Watt Field.
Also a defensive-minded team, the W&L back line has allowed just seven goals this season for a 0.70 goals-against average. Will Joseph has taken over the starting spot in goal and features a 4-1-2 overall record with a 0.43 GAA. On the offensive side, Buster Couhig (3g) and Sami Seife (2g, 2a) lead the Washington and Lee offense with six points apiece.
Following the mid-week matchup away from home, the Captains will welcome in Regent University for a 6:00 pm kickoff on Saturday, October 11 for the team's first home game in nearly a month.
