LEXINGTON, Va. --
Fielding Croft set a school freshman record with 60 assists in four sets, and
Alyssa Dozier had a career-high 24 kills as CNU defeated No. 15 Washington and Lee 3-1 (25-21, 25-23, 21-25, 25-20) Saturday on the Generals' home floor in Lexington.
Croft's assist total also tied a school record for the rally scoring era, which began in 2002. Counting her total in the Captains' three-set win over Averett University earlier in the day, Fields had 97 assists on Saturday.
In addition to Dozier's career day, the Captains also got 15 kills each by
Simara Alexander (career high) and
Samantha Dorn. Libero
Maddie Hanes had a season-high 24 digs.
It was CNU's sixth consecutive win in Lexington, including in each of the past three years.
The opening set had 12 ties before CNU took the lead for good at 21-20. The Captains led 22-21 before scoring the final three points on kills by Dorn, Alexander and
Emmy Carpenedo to take the set.
After losing the first point of the second set, CNU went on a 7-0 run and never trailed again. W&L fought back to force a 23-23 tie, but the Captains secured the final two points on kills by Carpenedo.
After the Generals took the third set, the fourth went back and forth with six lead changes and 12 ties. The Captains took the lead at 18-17 on a kill by Dozier off an assist from Croft. That started a 4-0 run that created the cushion CNU needed to hold on.
The win capped a doubleheader sweep for the Captains (12-6), who defeated Averett 3-0 (25-10, 25-14, 25-15) in the opener. Eight players had at least two kills.
Carpenedo led the way with 12, seven coming in the opening set, and Dorn added 10 with a .556 hitting percentage.
Croft finished with 37 assists, which was a career high for a couple of hours. Carpenedo had a career-high four service aces.
CNU quickly took control in the opening set by scoring the first five points. With another 5-0 run and a 4-0 spurt, the Captains never trailed. CNU had a hitting percentage of .514 (21 kills, three errors, 35 attempts).
In the second set, the Captains were clinging to a 7-6 lead before pulling away with a 10-0 run. Dorn had four kills and

The Captains cruised in the third set behind bookend 5-1 runs. CNU had four service aces, two by Carpenedo.
