BRIDGEWATER, Va. --
Alyssa Dozier had 19 kills with a .500 attack percentage and
Fielding Croft had 49 assists as CNU volleyball avenged a five-set loss to Bridgewater College last month with a 3-1 (25-7, 31-29, 22-25, 25-23) road win Wednesday night.
Freshman
Emmy Carpenedo had 14 kills, eight coming in a 60-point second set, and 13 digs.
Simara Alexander had eight kills, and
Maddie Hanes had 20 digs along with three of the Captains' 10 aces.
CNU (18-7) took control in the first set by scoring eight consecutive points for a 15-3 lead and rolled from there. The Captains had a .391 percentage with only one attack error.
In the second, CNU scored the first point but didn't lead again until 18-17 on a Carpenedo kill. Ties at 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, and 29 followed before the Captains scored the final two points, the clincher coming on a kill by Dozier with an assist from Croft.
CNU fell behind 4-0 and never led in the third set despite Dozier's eight kills.
The fourth set had 10 ties, the last coming at 23. The Captains clinched the match by taking the final two points on an ace by Alexander and a kill by Carpenedo.
CNU's next match will be Saturday against No. 18 Washington and Lee in the Freeman Center at 11 a.m. The Captains defeated the Generals 3-1 on Oct. 4 in Lexington.
