NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Playing in the penultimate game of the 2025 regular season, the 22nd-ranked Christopher Newport men's soccer team will take on the University of Mary Washington (8-6-3) Wednesday night. The game, which will be played either at Captains Field or at Jennings Family Stadium after a determination is made based on the weather, will kick off at 6:00 p.m.
After picking up a road win at North Carolina Wesleyan last week, the Captains improved to 10-1-4 overall and dropped to No. 22 in this week's United Soccer Coaches national rankings. Christopher Newport features a 6-0-2 record in home game this season and is currently riding a three-game winning streak and unbeaten in five straight.Â
Against the Eagles, CNU played to a scoreless draw on the road on Saturday, October 4 in the first matchup this season. The game extended a 50-50 all-time series with both teams picking up 26 wins and eight draws against each other. The last win CNU had against Mary Washington came in a 2-1 home matchup on September 24, 2022.Â

Sophomore
Declan Karney was named the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week after helping lead CNU to a fourth shutout in the last five games. CNU has surrendered just three goals since September 20, a span of eight games, while boasting a goals-against average of 0.38 in that stretch. For the season, Karney has played with sophomore

Yazan Yaghmmour flanking the outside. The group has played in front of senior
Hayden Dewey in goal for all 15 games while posting a 0.60 goals-against average this season.Â
Offensively,
Drew McWhinney leads the team with four goals while
Joe Summerfield has added three goals and two assist for eight points. In his senior campaign,
Barry Jones has added three goals for six points while providing the Captains a dangerous option on the outside.Â
Mary Washington is led by veteran Sammy Amorose with seven goals and six assist for 20 points. Elliot Berg and Moises Argueta-Garcia have each added double figures in scoring with 12 and 10 points, respectively. On the defensive side of the ball, Tristan Kickbush has started all 17 games and played all but 23 minutes for a 0.96 goals-against average this year. He has made 74 saves with 16 goals allowed.Â
Wednesday night's tilt is the second-to-last game of the regular season as CNU will travel to Salisbury University for the finale on Saturday, November 1. Kickoff against the Sea Gulls is set for 3:30 p.m.
