NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -
Christopher Newport University begins its 2025 schedule on Saturday, as the 18th-ranked Captains host the top team in the country, Emory University. Tip off time is set for 2:00 p.m. at the Freeman Center.

The Captains are riding a three-game winning streak, and are 12-3 on the season. John Krikorian's squad is coming off back-to-back victories to win the Captains Shootout at the Freeman Center on December 29th and 30th. CNU defeated Misericordia University, 81-50, in the opening game, and then downed Bery College, 79-71, in the title game.

Fifth-year senior All-American Jahn Hines registered another memorable performance against Berry College (Ga.) on Monday. Hines, who scored a career-high 39 points at Berry last New Year's Day in a CNU victory, tallied 37 points at the Freeman Center, leading the Captains to a 79-71 victory over the Vikings in the championship game. Hines received the MVP honor of the two-day tournament after setting a new scoring record for the Shootout. The Norfolk native also scored 19 on Sunday in the Christopher Newport victory over Misericordia in the opening round, as the three-time All-American moved into seventh place on the CNU all-time scoring list. Sophomore Toa Hollenbeck was also selected to the All-Tournament team from CNU.

Emory is 10-0 to start the season, and the Eagles are ranked #1 in the national poll from D3hoops.com. This will be just the third all-time meeting of the schools, and the Eagles have won the previous two, including an 86-70 victory last January 3rd in Atlanta, Ga. The schools also met at the Freeman Center in the Captains Shootout Championship in 2013, when Emory held off CNU by a 92-90 final score.

Saturday's game will be Military Appreciation Day at the Freeman Center. You can receive two free general admission tickets to the game with a military ID at the Freeman Center Ticket Office. Tickets for the battle will be available at the Freeman Center Ticket Office prior to the game.

Christopher Newport games are broadcast live on the Home of the Captains, Xtra 99.1 FM and CNUsports.com. The pre-game show will begin at 1:40 p.m. Saturday afternoon. The match up will be streamed live on CNUsports.com, and links to watch the live stream as well as to follow the live stats are provided at the top of this story.
