Medford, MA - The Christopher Newport Captains dropped just one set in two matches on Friday at the Boston Invite. The Captains defeated Tufts in four sets before sweeping No. 17 Calvin, the first win over the three-time national champions in program history.

First Set
In the first set, the Captains sealed a competitive frame by winning eight of the final 13 points, featuring kills from Alyssa Dozier, Avery Hanly, Megan James, Samantha Dorn, and Macy Burk. Phoebe Adams delivered the set-winning ace to close out a 25-19 win.
Second Set
In the second set, Tufts rallied to narrow CNU's lead to 14-13, but the Captains regrouped after a timeout. CNU responded by winning 11 of the last 14 points, including the final six in a row, with Audrey Stenger serving two aces and Dozier contributing two crucial blocks, leading to a 25-16 victory.
Third Set
The third set remained tight throughout, with neither team able to gain more than a one-point lead. Despite kills from Dozier and Adams keeping the Captains in the hunt, Tufts capitalized late, winning two consecutive points to take the set 25-23.
Fourth Set
The Captains dominated the fourth set, hitting 15 kills with just two errors for an outstanding .542 hitting percentage. Their defense was just as impressive, forcing more errors than kills allowed, holding Tufts to a -.040 hitting percentage. CNU wrapped up the match by winning the last four points, including two kills from Hanly, securing a 25-16 win to finish the match.

First Set
The Captains came out strong in the first set, winning the first four points and never trailing. Alyssa Dozier was instrumental in the opening frame, posting six kills to guide CNU to a comfortable set victory, 25-18.
Second Set
CNU's momentum carried over into the second set, where they jumped out to a 7-0 lead, with Macy Burk serving three aces during that stretch. After Calvin responded with four points, the Captains rattled off another seven consecutive points, this time with Alyssa Vitale adding an ace to the run. Megan James later contributed an ace, and CNU closed out the set in dominant fashion, 25-9.
Third Set
The Captains started fast again in the third set, winning six of the first seven points with key kills from Dozier and Hanly. Megan James, who served an ace and recorded four kills in the final frame, delivered the last two kills to clinch the 25-17 win and complete the sweep over the nationally-ranked Knights.
