Hannah Kaloi Earns VaSID College Division All-State Women's Basketball Honors

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Earning first team All-State plaudits for her performance in 2023-24, Christopher Newport junior forward Hannah Kaloi was listed among the best women's basketball players in the Commonwealth on Tuesday after a vote of the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID). The Captains' veteran in the front court collects her first All-State recognition and extends a streak of 11 straight years that CNU has been represented on the All-State team by at least one player.

Kaloi was selected as a second team All-Region honoree by D3hoops.com after a standout season that saw her help lead the Captains to a 27-2 overall record and fifth straight conference regular season and tournament championship. CNU advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the eighth straight season and won a postseason game for the 12th straight appearance including ten under head coach Bill Broderick

The veteran starter in the front court earned All-Region honors for the first time in her career after also collecting All-Conference plaudits for the first time this season. She also garnered Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference Tournament MVP honors after helping CNU cut down the nets for the third time in her career. The junior only played 18 games this season due to an injury, but Kaloi led the team in minutes per game. She finished out the season as the team's leading scorer, averaging 12.1 points per game, and ranked second on the squad in rebounding with 4.7 per contest.

Despite playing less than two-thirds of the season, Kaloi ranked third on the team in blocked shots and total rebounds. She knocked down 44.7 percent (72-161) from the field and buried 10 three-pointers during the season. At the free-throw line, Kaloi was almost automatic, dropping in 84.2 percent of her attempts to register a top-five season in program history. She finished with 13 double-figure scoring performances, including a season-high 21-point outburst against SUNY New Paltz on December 29.

The Captains closed out the year ranked No. 14 in the D3hoops.com national poll with a 27-2 overall record.
