NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Closing out the regular season in style, the 19th-ranked Christopher Newport women's tennis team put together a dominating victory over Marymount University (8-5) on Sunday afternoon, 9-0. The Captains dropped just two games in the nine matches against the Saints as the seniors played in their final home regular season bout for the Captains.
WIth the victory, CNU posts an 11-5 overall record for the finest regular season record since 2018 when the Captains were one win better before postseason play. It was also the first time since a 9-0 blanking of St. Mary's (Md.) on March 31, 2019 that the Captains won a regular season match with fewer than three games surrendered to their opponent.

Tessa Trate each collected two wins while classmate
Kiersten Chang added one victory in singles action to combine for six of the nine team points. Trate paired with
Raine Weis for an 8-1 win at No. 1 doubles and also earned an 8-0 win at No. 2. Bauer played with partner
Kylie Schaefer for an 8-0 win at No. 3 doubles and also shutout her opponent at No. 6 singles. Linam and Samanth Robertson earned an 8-0 win at No. 2 doubles while the former would also capture a win at No. 3 singles. Finally, Chang earned a clean win at No. 5 in her singles match.
In singles, Weis earned an 8-1 win against Fabienne Fritz at No. 1 and the other five matches were 8-0 wins for the Captains. Trate downed Sofia Lucero at No. 2, Linam defeated Avery DeFazio at No. 3, Robertson over Angelica Dalton at No. 4, Chang against Ariana Kombou at No. 5, and Bauer versus Sofi Plotkin at No. 6.
With her win at No. 1 doubles,
Tessa Trate became just the third player in CNU Women's Tennis history to capture 50 career victories on the top line, joining Stefanie Leblang (66) and Lindsey Pantele (58).
The Captains will now turn its focus to postseason play with the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference Championship set to be played in Fredericksburg, Va. on May 3-5. The tournament seeding will be set and announced by the C2C on April 29.
