CHESTERTOWN, Md. -- In the first of three road matches this weekend, the 37th-ranked Christopher Newport men's tennis team put away Washington College (Md.) by a final score of 7-2. The Captains improved to 9-4 on the season with the win while the Shoremen fell to 4-8 overall.

Three Captains finished 2-0 on the day including regionally-ranked senior Edvard Porsmyr Hansen at No. 1 doubles and No. 2 singles. He was joined by Alex Seretis and Ashton Legum among the CNU players to win in both singles and doubles.

Porsmyr Hansen paired with Legum to help Christopher Newport get out to a doubles sweep with the win at No. 1 doubles. The veteran tandem won, 8-5, against Karl Hoegstedt and Aaradith Ravichandran for their first appearance on the top line this spring and added to their team-high with 14 wins overall this year.

CNU also won at No. 2 where Nesh Kumaresan played with partner Vincent Truong against Kohl Perkins and Ryohei Kawai. The Captains duo won, 8-6. At No. 3, Ahun Vodela and Alex Seretis earned an 8-1 win over Jorge Urgal Zuleta and Johannes Ludwigstorff, completing the doubles sweep.

In singles play, Legum won quickly against Ravichandran at No. 4 (6-1, 6-2) before Seretis clinched the win for CNU at No. 5 versus Urgal Zuleta (6-2, 6-2). With the match clinched, the home team picked up their two points at No. 1 and 6, but the Captains finished out the dominant victory with Porsmyr Hansen's second win at No. 2 and a marathon battle at No. 3 for Monroe. First, Porsmyr Hansen defeated Kawai (7-5, 6-2) and then Monroe pulled out a hard-fought win against Perkins (7-6 (5), 7-6 (6)).

CNU will continue the road trip on Saturday while traveling to No. 9 Swarthmore College for a 3:00 p.m. match. On Sunday, the Captains will close out the busy weekend at No. 17 Johns Hopkins for a 4:00 p.m. bout.
