NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Christopher Newport University looks to continue a three-game winning streak Saturday afternoon, as the 18th-ranked Captains host the Fighting Squirrels of Mary Baldwin University. Tip off is set for 4:00 p.m. at the Freeman Center.

John Krikorian's Captains, 8-2 and ranked 18th in the country, are coming off a 94-76 home win over Marymount University on Wednesday night. Fifth-year senior All-American Jahn Hines led the way with a 24-point performance, and three sophomores also reached double digits in the scoring column. Ethan Ward registered 14 points, and Isaiah Dozier and Jason Ofcarcik posted a dozen points each. The Captains pulled away after leading by just one at the half, and out-scored the Saints in the second half, 57-40, en-route to the 18-point triumph. Christopher Newport had its best shooting game of the season, knocking down 36 of 59 shots for the night for 61 percent.

Hines moved into eighth place on the CNU all-time scoring list on Wednesday, and is now 51 points shy of Antoine Sinclair for seventh on the all-time list. The Norfolk native leads the squad in scoring (17.6 points per game) and rebounding (8.4 boards per game).

Mary Baldwin enters Saturday's matinee with a 4-3 record so far this season. The Fighting Squirrels haven't played since the Tuesday before Thanksgiving, a 93-68 loss at Bridgewater College. The game will be just the second meeting of the programs, and the first in Newport News. Mary Baldwin added men's basketball as a sport in the 2020-2021 season, and the squads played last year in Staunton, Va., for the first time ever. CNU escaped with a 64-61 victory in a hard-fought contest that saw eight lead changes and was tied seven times.
