Captains Knock Off Berry in Second Straight Sweep

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Christopher Newport earned its second straight sweep Friday night, sweeping Berry 3-0 at the Freeman Center. Samantha Dorn led the way with 10 kills, while setter Alyssa Vitale notched a double-double with 15 assists and 11 digs.

First Set

CNU jumped out to an early lead, winning six of the first nine points behind a kill and ace from Megan James. The set remained competitive, with both teams trading points, but the Captains' serving proved critical. CNU tallied four aces in the set, including two from Macy Burk. Following a kill by Alli Pratt that brought up set point, Burk sealed the 25-21 victory with her second ace.

Second Set

The Captains started the second set strong, taking six of the first eight points with help from two early kills by Alyssa Dozier. While CNU led for most of the set, Berry rallied late to tie the score at 21. A kill from Dozier reclaimed the lead, and after a Berry service error, Dozier's fourth kill of the set clinched the 25-23 win.

Third Set

CNU opened the third set with a 3-0 run, but Berry responded to take a 12-10 lead. The Captains quickly turned the tide, winning 15 of the final 20 points to secure the sweep. Pratt, Burk, and Dozier led the charge during the closing run, and James delivered the final kill to cap off the 25-17 win.
