Captains Take Down #25 Salisbury to Open Weekend

Newport News, Va. - Christopher Newport claimed an impressive 3-0 sweep over #25 Salisbury on Friday night at the Freeman Center. This victory handed Salisbury just their third defeat of the season and extended CNU's winning streak to five matches.

First Set

The Captains rallied from a 19-14 deficit, surging with a 10-1 run to seize control. Macy Burk ignited the comeback with back-to-back kills, followed by two more kills from Samantha Dorn. Burk then struck again to tie the score. After gaining momentum, CNU won the next four points to bring up set point, and Dorn clinched the set with a decisive kill.

Second Set

The second set remained tightly contested, with Dorn delivering two kills and Noelle Starr adding an ace to keep CNU in the hunt. Both Dorn and Alyssa Dozier posted four kills each in the frame. Late in the set, two kills from Dozier pushed CNU ahead 23-22, and a block by Alli Pratt and Kyla McIntyre brought up set point. Though Salisbury took one back, an errant Sea Gulls serve handed the Captains a 2-0 lead in the match.

Third Set

Salisbury began the third set with a quick five-point lead, but CNU clawed back with a balanced effort. Six Captains recorded kills as they chipped away at the scoreline. Down 19-14, CNU orchestrated an 11-point run to seal the match. Burk, Dorn, and Dozier added kills, while Burk and Alyssa Vitale combined for a key block to get within one point. Vitale served consecutive aces to take the lead, and Dozier's block, followed by kills from Burk and Dorn, closed out the set and the match.
