NEWPORT NEWS, Va. --
The sixth-ranked Christopher Newport field hockey team will cap off the regular season on Saturday at 4 p.m. when the Captains host Mary Washington in a non-conference tilt at Jennings Family Stadium.

Entering the weekend, CNU sits at 13-1 overall, including 5-0 at home. Meanwhile, Mary Washington is 11-6 with a 5-4 mark on the road.

For those fans unable to attend the game, live stats and a video stream of the action will be available at CNUsports.com. Direct links to both features can be found at the top of this release and on the schedule page.

Prior to Saturday's contest, Christopher Newport will hold its annual Senior Day celebration. During the on-field ceremony, CNU will honor the program's five seniors. Together, Katie Abendschoen, Brooke Billhimer, Delaney Norr, Lainey Pratzner, and Maddison Steele have helped the Captains compile a 56-14 record since 2021 while making three straight NCAA Tournament appearances.

On an individual level, Abendschoen and Billhimer have started all 70 games over the past four seasons, which stands as the longest streak in program history. Meanwhile, Pratzner has also appeared in every contest during that stretch and sits in the top-25 all-time in starts, minutes, and assists. Additionally, Steele and Norr have established themselves as two of the program's most electric offensive contributors while ranking among the all-time leaders in goals, points-per-contest, and game-winning tallies.

So far this season, Steele is third among league competitors with 23 points, while Norr is seventh with 14. On the other end of the field, Abendschoen, Billhimer, and Pratzner have helped anchor a unit that ranks third in the NCAA in scoring defense with a 0.64 goals-against-average.

Along with the senior stars, junior goalie Lily Kerr is third in the country in both save percentage (.862) and goals-against-average (0.62). She is also the reigning NFHCA National Defensive Player of the Week after guiding CNU to three straight shutouts during a remarkable six-day stretch.

Among other nationally-ranked competitors, Courtney Hughlett is 11th in the NCAA in assists-per-game with a 0.64 rate. The sophomore standout has notched at least one point in each of her last eight appearances, which stands as the fourth-longest scoring streak in program history and the longest run by a Captain since 2013.

Mary Washington comes into the weekend on a two-game roll after shutting out Sewanee and Meredith in back-to-back outings. In their last appearance, the Eagles stormed past Meredith, 8-0, at the Battleground Turf Field. During that contest, seven different players scored a goal, including a pair of tallies by Grayson Scott.

Scott currently ranks 23rd in the NCAA in goals-per-game with a 0.94 average. Caroline Porter is also 21st in the country in defensive saves after setting aside six on-target attempts. As a team, UMW is 46th nationally in scoring defense (1.44 goals-against-average) and 54th in scoring offense (2.53 goals-per-game).

In 25 previous meetings between the two programs, Christopher Newport holds a 19-6 edge in the series. Last year, the Captains picked up a 4-2 win in Fredericksburg, including two goals and an assist by Caroline Hughlett.

After Saturday, CNU will return to action on November 9 at 6 p.m. when the Captains travel to No. 2 Salisbury for the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Championship.
