Captains' Volleyball Completes Clean Sweep Saturday

Christopher Newport won their second and third straight set matches with a pair of 3-0 victories on Saturday, defeating Susquehanna and Catholic. With two more dominant wins, the Captains extended their winning streak to four matches.

Christopher Newport 3, Susquehanna 0 (25-23, 25-17, 25-12)

First Set

Alli Pratt and Alyssa Dozier each notched five kills in the opening set to help CNU take an 18-12 lead. Susquehanna closed the gap to one, but the Captains buckled down and finished strong. Samantha Dorn's kill and a block by Dozier and Macy Burk brought CNU to set point, which Megan James clinched with a kill for a 25-23 win.

Second Set

Back-to-back aces from Kensie Price propelled the Captains to an early lead. Megan James and Macy Burk each recorded five kills in the set, helping CNU pull ahead 19-15. A final surge with kills from Pratt and Burk, capped by an ace from Alyssa Vitale, set up the Captains wtih a 22-16 advantage. After a missed CNU attack returned the serve to Susquehanna, Burk struck again with another kill, then teamed up with Dozier for a block, before delivering the set clinching kill.

Third Set

CNU opened the final set with five straight kills. James hit the first one, then Burk hit three in a row, and Audrey Stenger hit the fifth straight. Later, the Captains went on another five-point run that included an ace from Noelle Starr and two kills by Pratt. CNU closed the set with a comfortable lead, as a kill from Kyla McIntyre and another ace from Price completed the sweep, 25-15.

First Set

Tied at nine, CNU went on an 11-4 run fueled by kills from five different players and an ace by Price. Vitale's ace, a kill by Dorn, and a block from Dozier closed the set, giving CNU a 25-20 win.

Second Set

Dozier and Burk quickly got CNU ahead with early kills, and Dorn added to the lead with a block and back-to-back kills in a four-point run. Catholic tried to rally but could only close the gap to 16-11 before CNU's 9-1 closing run secured the set. Coghill's kill ignited the run, while a block from Alexander and Burk capped the 25-12 set win.

Third Set

After Catholic tied the score at 10, CNU responded with kills from Coghill and James to claim six of the next seven points. The Captains maintained control, and kills from James and Coghill helped seal the final set, 25-18.

  • Four Captains posted double-digit kills against Susquehanna: Alli Pratt (11), James (10), Dozier (10), and Burk (10).

The Captains return to the Freeman Center next weekend for three home matches, starting with a match against Salisbury on Friday. CNU will then host Washington & Lee and Marymount on Saturday.
