ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. --
The sixth-ranked Christopher Newport field hockey team will cap off a busy week with back-to-back road trips as the Captains head to St. Mary's (Md.) on Thursday at 4 p.m. before traveling to Washington and Lee for a 2 p.m. test  on Saturday.

CNU currently sits at 11-1 on the season, including 6-1 on the road. On the other side, St. Mary's is 7-9 overall, while Washington and Lee boasts an 8-5 record. The Generals will face Randolph-Macon on Wednesday night before hosting the Captains this weekend.

For those fans unable to attend the games, live stats and a video stream of both contests will be provided by the hosts. Direct links can be found at the top of this release and on the schedule page.

Christopher Newport kicked off the week with a 4-0 triumph over Rhodes during a Monday morning battle in Salem, Virginia. Delaney Norr played a role in three of the squad's four goals as the senior scored twice and added an assist. Her five-point outburst matched her career-high, tying an identical eruption against Ohio Wesleyan earlier this season.

Along with Norr, Courtney Hughlett extended her point streak to six straight games after finding the back of the cage against the Lynx. That run currently stands as the ninth-longest in program history and the finest stretch since Lauren Cheatham had an 11-game streak to open the 2013 campaign.

In addition to the veteran contributors, CNU continued to receive key contributions from its first-year members as well. Sophomore transfer Riley Iasiello landed her third goal of the year, while freshmen Avery Mast and Morgan Shealer each started their fifth straight game. Additionally, Julia Oleyar eclipsed 20 minutes of action for the second time this season, and Gigi Stephan was over 15 during her third straight appearance.

On the defensive end, Lily Kerr established a new program record for saves in a quarter after sending back nine shots during the third period against Rhodes. Her nine stops also marked her third-highest total in a shutout since she arrived in Newport News in 2022.

Kerr's win on Monday was also her 40th career triumph. That places her second on the program's all-time charts and eighth among all active goalies in the NCAA. Her stellar .857 career save percentage also stands as the finest mark by any current player in the country.

Entering Thursday, St. Mary's has shut out its last four opponents, including a 3-0 win against Keystone on Saturday. The Seahawks have six total shutouts this season and rank 16th in the NCAA in defensive saves. On an individual level, Jena Vanskiver sits ninth on the national charts with seven defensive saves, while Charlotte Horn also has a pair.

On the offensive side, Brenna Ziegler leads St. Mary's with 22 points, while Emma Watkins has scored a team-high nine goals. Watkins has registered at least one strike in each of her last three appearances, including multi-goal eruptions against Wilson and Meredith.

Thursday's contest will mark the 20th meeting between the Captains and Seahawks with CNU holding a 17-2 edge in the series. Christopher Newport won last year's battle, 6-1, including three-point efforts from Katie Abendschoen, Emily Evans, and Caroline Hughlett.

Boasting an impressive home field advantage, Washington and Lee is 5-2 on its home turf, including a victory over No. 24 Stevens on September 28. W&L's only setbacks at home this year have come against nationally-ranked foes. The Generals dropped a 5-1 decision against No. 2 Johns Hopkins on September 1 before falling to No. 15 Shenandoah, 2-1, during an overtime shootout on October 9.

So far this season, Washington and Lee has four players with double-digit point totals, including Sydney Baggett, who leads the squad with 18. Margaret Cover is also tied for the team-lead with six goals, while Jenna Bernstein and Betty Boatwright have five apiece. On the defensive side, the Generals have posted five shutouts this season, while Julia McDonald has a 1.47 goals-against-average.

In 18 previous match-ups between the Generals and Captains, CNU holds a 14-4 record. However, Washington and Lee has won the last two showdowns, including a 2-1 triumph in 2022. Abendschoen scored Christopher Newport's lone goal in that contest before W&L added a pair of unanswered strikes to steal the win in Newport News.

Following the road trips, CNU will wrap up the regular season at home with a 4 p.m. showdown against Mary Washington on November 2.
