NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Christopher Newport University begins a stretch of five straight home games on Saturday, as the 25th-ranked Captains entertain the Owls of Warren Wilson College (N.C.). Tip off is set for 4:00 p.m. at the Freeman Center.
John Krikorian's squad is 15-4 on the season after holding on for a 59-57 victory on Wednesday night at the University of Mary Washington. Two Captains, fifth-year seniors
Trey Barber and
Ian Anderson, recorded double-doubles in the win in Fredericksburg. Barber posted 14 points and ten rebounds, while Anderson registered ten points and ten boards. Sophomore
Collin Hines led the Captains with 16 points, and senior All-American
Jahn Hines also reached double figures with 15 points. The victory was the third straight for CNU.
Christopher Newport is 8-1 at home this year after going 13-1 last year at the Freeman Center. The Captains are 69-4 (.945) in their last 73 home games dating back to the start of the 2018-2019 season.
Saturday's match-up with Warren Wilson will be the first-ever for CNU. The Owls enter play on Saturday with a 3-11 mark. Warren Wilson College is located near Asheville, North Carolina, and joined the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference for the start of the 2022-2023 season.
Tickets for the game will be available at the Freeman Center Ticket Office prior to tip off.
Captains men's basketball is broadcast live on the Christopher Newport/Pepsi Radio Network (Xtra 99.1 FM) with the pre-game show beginning at approximately 3:40 p.m. Saturday. The game will follow the CNU/Warren Wilson women's game, which is set for a 2:00 p.m. start Saturday at the Freeman Center.
