NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Christopher Newport University plays at home for the first time in 2024, hosting the Ravens of Rosemont University on Saturday. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m. at C.J. Woollum Court at the Freeman Center.
The Captains, now 13-4, have opened the new year with three straight road contests.
John Krikorian's squad defeated Marymount University Wednesday night in Arlington, Va., 87-71, in its most recent battle. CNU enjoyed a big second half against the Saints, and opened a four-point halftime lead into a 23-point advantage thanks in large part to a 15-2 run to start the half. Freshman
Toa Hollenbeck led the way with a career-high 22 points.
Senior All-Americans
Jahn Hines and
Trey Barber also had big nights on Wednesday for the Captains. Hines, who was named to the National Team of the Week this week by D3hoops.com, scored 16 points and pulled down nine rebounds at Marymount. He moved into 17th place on CNU's all-time scoring list, and is now just seven points behind Mike Green for the 16th spot. Barber returned to the CNU lineup on Wednesday and contributed his third double-double of the year with 14 points and ten rebounds off the bench. He also registered four assists for the Captains.
Saturday's game will be the first ever of the programs. Rosemont, located in Bryn Mawr, Pa., is 2-11 on the season and the Ravens have dropped their last four games. Rosemont played Thursday night on the road, and fell to Cairn, 80-58.
Christopher Newport is 7-1 at home this year after going 13-1 last year at the Freeman Center. The Captains are 68-4 (.944) in their last 72 home games dating back to the start of the 2018-2019 season.
Tickets for the game will be available at the Freeman Center Ticket Office prior to tip off.
