NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The No. 25 Christopher Newport Volleyball team heads out on their first road trip of the season. The Captains travel to Huntingdon, Pennsylvania for three matches against some stiff competetion at the Asics Invitation.
Match Details
The Captains face off with the hosting Juniata on Friday at 3:00 p.m. ahead of a 5:00 p.m. match against Carnegie Mellon. On Saturday, CNU takes on Berry at 1:30 p.m. There will be a live video stream produced by Juniata Athletics. However, due to a conference mandate, a cost is associated with the stream. Noelle Starr surpassed 1000 career digs on Wednesday night, but the Captains fell in five sets to Virginia Wesleyan. Starr led the Captains with 28 digs as she crossed the 1000 dig threshold. She's the first CNU player to do so since
Rebecca Frey did so last season.

Alyssa Dozier is off to a strong start in the first week of the season. She leads the team and the C2C conference with 18 blocks and 9 service aces. She's also second on the team with 39 kills.
Series History
The Captains are 5-13 all-time against Juniata. Their last meeting came in the region final last season with the Eagles topping CNU on their way to the national title. CNU is 1-2 in program history against Carnegie Mellon, with the Tartans taking the most recent meeting last season. Berry leads the series over Christopher Newport 3-2. Saturday will be their first meeting since 2019.
Scouting the Eagles
Juniata came into the season ranked No. 1 and won their first three matches last weekend. The Eagles took down Johns Hopkins, Wittenberg, and Beloit in their opening weekend. They'll enter the season's second weekend ranked 13th in the nation with a .295 hitting percentage.
Scouting the Tartans
Carnegie Mellon has won their first four matches of the season. They won all three games in the season's opening weekend along with a midweek matchup. They've received votes in both AVCA polls this season so far and boast a top 50 ranked hitting percentage of .233.
Scouting the Vikings
Berry went 2-1 at the Transylvania Invite in their first weekend of action, with their only loss coming against a top-ten team in Calvin. That performance saw them jump a spot from 11 to 10 in the rankings. They hit .230 in the opening weekend of play which is the 50th best percentage in the country.
