WINCHESTER, Va. --
The 7th-ranked Christopher Newport field hockey team will hit the road this weekend for a pair of battles as the Captains face No. 11 Kean at 5 p.m. on Saturday at Shenandoah University's Shentel Stadium before traveling to Roanoke for a noon test on Sunday at Donald J. Kerr Stadium.

Entering the weekend, CNU sits at 8-0 overall, including 2-0 in road tilts. Meanwhile, Kean is 6-1, while Roanoke is 2-3. Prior to their battle with the Captains on Sunday, the Maroons have a conference game against Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday evening.

For those fans unable to attend the games, Christopher Newport will provide live stats and a video stream of Saturday's action, while Roanoke will offer both services on Sunday. Direct links can be found at the top of this release and on the schedule page.

Opening the year 8-0 for the first time since 2013, Christopher Newport extended its winning streak on Monday with a 10-0 triumph over Virginia Wesleyan. The squad's 10 goals equaled the most in a decade, while their 10 assists marked the second-highest total in school history.

On an individual level, Lindsey Loar and Emily Evans became the second set of teammates to record hat-tricks in the same game. With her performance, Evans became the seventh Captain to record multiple hat-tricks in her career after striking three times against Concordia (Wisc.) on September 11, 2022. Additionally, Loar became the sixth true freshman to register a hat-trick at Christopher Newport, joining an exclusive club that also includes Evans and Abby Asuncion.

Along with the high-volume scorers, Maddison Steele handed out three assists, which equaled the fourth-highest total by a Captain. It also continued a remarkable run for the third-year star after she was previously honored as the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week on Monday.

Overall this season, Christopher Newport ranks fifth in the NCAA in scoring defense (0.50 goals-against-average) and 11th in scoring offense (4.50 goals-per-game). On an individual level, Lily Kerr is first in the nation in save percentage (.903) and fourth in goals-against-average (0.44), while Alexis Morales is third in assists-per-game (1.00).

Kean has been equally stingy on the defensive side as the Cougars are eighth in the NCAA in save percentage (.867) and 22nd in scoring defense (0.86 goals-against-average). Offensively, Peyton Mann leads the team with 15 points, including six goals. Morgan Stump has also struck four times, while Jorja Hibschman has three tallies, including the game-winner against No. 20 William Smith earlier this month.

Roanoke comes into the weekend with a 1-1 record at home, including a convincing 6-1 triumph over Meredith on September 13. Leading the way on the attack, Grace Vernarelli and Saige Bullock both have three goals apiece, while Tess Taloumis also has a pair of tallies. Defensively, Madison Wingerter boasts a .538 save percentage and 2.51 goals-against-average. The Maroons have also notched three defensive saves this year.

In two previous meetings between Christopher Newport and Kean, the Cougars have a 2-0 record, including a 2-1 triumph in Pennsylvania on September 5, 2021. Meanwhile, the Captains hold a 7-3 edge in the series against Roanoke. CNU shut out the Maroons, 2-0, in their last meeting on October 9, 2022.

Following this weekend's busy slate, Christopher Newport will return to action on October 8 with a noon contest against Rhodes in Fredericksburg, Virginia.
