BRYN MAWR, Pa. --
For the second straight game, the ninth-ranked Christopher Newport field hockey team will face a nationally-ranked foe as the Captains travel to No. 17 Bryn Mawr for a non-conference test at Applebee Field on Saturday at 11:30 a.m.

Entering the weekend, CNU sits at 6-0 overall, including 1-0 on the road. Meanwhile, Bryn Mawr is 5-1 with a 2-0 record at home.

For those fans unable to attend the game, live stats and a video stream of the action will be available at GoBrynMawr.com. Direct links to both features can be found at the top of this release and on the schedule page.

On Wednesday, Christopher Newport knocked off its second nationally-ranked program of the season after toppling No. 20 Catholic, 2-1, at Jennings Family Stadium. Trailing for the first time all year, the Captains orchestrated a second-half comeback as Maddison Steele landed the equalizer in the third quarter before Lindsey Loar deposited the game-winner in the 53rd minute.

Along with the offensive heroes, CNU surrendered just two total shots against the Cardinals. Brooke Billhimer, Kendall Gibson, and Chloe Thompson anchored the back line while thwarting several dangerous threats by Catholic. The two shots marked the fewest by an opponent this season and the lowest total by a top-20 foe in program history.

Incredibly, less than three weeks earlier, the Captains held No. 19 Franklin & Marshall to only six shots in a 2-1 win on September 3. That marked the third-fewest by a nationally-ranked team in school lore.

Overall this season, Christopher Newport ranks seventh in the NCAA in save percentage (.862) and 12th in goals-against-average (0.67). On an individual level, Lily Kerr's .885 save percentage is sixth in the country, while her 0.57 goals-against-average is the 11th-best mark. Meanwhile, on the other end, Alexis Morales is 10th in the nation with a 1.00 assists-per-game rate, and the entire team is 16th in scoring offense with a 3.83 goals-per-game average.

Equally successful this season, Bryn Mawr ripped off five straight wins to open the year before stumbling at No. 7 Williams, 5-2, on Sunday. Despite the setback, the Owls still rank 11th in the NCAA with three shutouts, while they stand 28th in goals-per-game (3.33) and 35th in scoring defense (1.11 goals-against-average).

On an individual level, Sophie Vagts has a team-high five goals and three assists, while Izzy Robinson-Cloete has four strikes of her own, including a pair of game-winners. Defensively, Charlene Basque has started all six games while compiling a 1.18 goals-against-average and .767 save percentage.

Saturday's match-up will mark just the second all-time meeting between the two programs. Bryn Mawr won last year's tilt, 3-2, in Newport News. Abby Asuncion scored one of Christopher Newport's two goals, while current Owls Jasmine Peterson and Sarah Chapman both landed blows for the victors.

After this weekend, CNU will return home on Monday at 6 p.m. when the Captains square off with Virginia Wesleyan at Jennings Family Stadium.
