Dozier Hits Historic Percentage in win over Washington & Lee

LEXINGTON, Va. - Alyssa Dozier had a historic performance on Friday night in Christopher Newport's three set win over Washington & Lee. Dozier set a school record for hitting percentage in a match with at least 20 attempts with her .741 percentage. 

First Set (Captains 26-24)

CNU took the first four points of the match starting with two kills from Samantha Dorn. The Captains built a 16-12 lead, but Washington & Lee managed to comeback and scored eight in a row to take a 20-16 lead. Macy Burk's kill started the Captains' comeback with her second kill of the set. Kyla McIntyre had the next kill, and Alyssa Dozier had the next five kills in a row to put CNU ahead 25-24. Simara Alexander's kill on the next point wrapped up the first set for Christopher Newport.

Second Set (Captains 25-20)

With the score tied at 16, the Captains rolled off 6 straight points to take control of the second set. Sammy Carroll had the first kill of the run followed by McIntyre, but it was Dozier again who put together three kills in the run. She would go on to add two more kills in the set, including the final kill won set point for the Captains.

Third Set (Captains 25-17)

Alyssa Dozier continued her hot streak as she drove the first two kills of the third set. Samantha Dorn had the next three kills for the Captains to put CNU up 7-6. CNU quickly built up a lead in the third set with two 3-0 runs. Dozier and Alexander teamed up for a block that brought up match point, and a General serve went wide to end the match.

News & Notes

  • Alyssa Dozier broke the 14-year old hitting percentage record set by Caitlyn Jansen (.714) against Salisbury on October 10, 2009.
  • It was also a career high 20 kills for Dozer, breaking her previous high of 16.
  • Dozier and Kyla McIntyre finished tied for the team lead of four blocks.
