TOWSON, Md. -- For just the third time in program history, the Christopher Newport University men's tennis team will embark on an NCAA Tournament run, starting with a 10:00 am match on Friday against Allegheny College (17-4). The Captains (10-8) will play the Gators for the first time in program history in the first round on a neutral court hosted by Johns Hopkins University.

The match will be played at the Schroedl Tennis Center at Goucher College, weather permitting. Following the Captains' first-round match with Allegheny, another first round tilt between RPI and Lebanon Valley will be held at 2:00 pm. The winning teams will advance to Saturday's second round to face a pair of teams that earned first-round byes.

10:00 am - Christopher Newport vs. Allegheny (if indoors - 1:30 pm)

10:00 am - Middlebury vs. CNU/Allegheny (if indoors - 1:30 pm)
2:00 pm - Johns Hopkins vs. RPI/Lebanon Valley (if indoors - 5:30 pm)
Sunday, May 7
12:00 pm - Advancing teams (if indoors - 2:00 pm)
If weather does force the matches to move inside, they will be held in Annapolis, Md. on the Naval Academy campus.
CNU first appeared in the postseason event in 2008, earning a first-round win over St. Joseph's (NY), and made a return trip in 2017 to pick up a first-round win over Franciscan. Allegheny, the champions of the Presidents' Athletic Conference, are making the team's first ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament after winning the program's fourth conference title.
This season, the Captains reached the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference semifinals after facing an impressive strength of schedule this season. The team has been led by Conference Player of the Year
Alec Strause, earning first team All-Conference honors in both singles and doubles. Strause is regionally-ranked in both disciplines, including a top-five billing on the top line of doubles with freshman partner
Nesh Kumaresan. C2C Rookie of the Year
Vincent Truong leads the team in singles wins in 2022-23 and the first freshman since 2014-15 with double-digit wins in both singles and doubles.
