NEWPORT NEWS, Va. --
After wrapping up a five-game road swing on Saturday, the Christopher Newport women's lacrosse team will return home for the first time in over three weeks when the Captains host Catholic in a non-conference test on Wednesday at 5 p.m. at Jennings Family Stadium.

Coming into the contest, Christopher Newport sits at 9-6 on the season, including 4-5 at home. Meanwhile, Catholic is 8-7 with a 5-2 mark on the road.

For those fans unable to attend the game, live stats and a video stream of the action will be available at CNUsports.com. Direct links to both features can be found at the top of this release and on the schedule page.

The Captains are coming off of a 14-13 overtime victory at Mary Washington on Saturday. Trailing by five with 14 minutes left in regulation, Christopher Newport pieced together a historic comeback. Julia Iapicca netted four of the team's seven goals in the fourth quarter, including the equalizer with 20 seconds remaining. Then, in the extra session, Kelsey Winters landed the clinching blow to seal the win.

The five-goal deficit equaled the second-largest overcome in school history. It also matched the biggest fourth-quarter comeback, equaling the squad's victory earlier this season at No. 24 Haverford on February 25.

Making history on Saturday, Winters posted her 100th career goal, making her just the third player in school history to eclipse 100 tallies and 100 assists in a single tenure. Meanwhile, Kendall Krause made her 76th career start over the weekend. That moved her past Christopher Newport Hall of Famer Kaitlin Quigley and former legend Rachel Tomlinson for the most in program history.

In addition to setting the record for career starts, Krause is one appearance away from tying Quigley's school record of 77 games played. She also sits fourth in program history with 74 takeaways, 11th with 124 ground balls, and 18th with 93 goals.

Several other Captains are also creeping up the school's all-time charts. Syd Guidi is four draws away from becoming the 14th Captain to reach 100 in her career. Meanwhile, Madi Rozgonyi is two takeaways shy of 50, and Iapicca is four away from that mark. Only 15 players have ever reached that plateau.

Catholic enters Wednesday riding a five-game winning streak, including an 11-9 triumph at Scranton on Saturday. Trailing by one entering the final four minutes of regulation, Grace Hill scored the last three goals to carry the Cardinals to the victory. Jessie Lee also had two points and a pair of caused turnovers during the win, while Lauren Davidson pocketed six saves.

Overall this season, Caroline Beckett leads Catholic with 53 points and 29 assists, while Kate Olsen has a team-high 37 goals. Defensively, Rachel Rubenstein has 27 caused turnovers and 45 ground balls. Between the pipes, Davidson boasts a 10.22 goals-against-average and .398 save percentage.

In 11 previous meetings between the two programs, Catholic has a 10-1 edge in the series. However, the squads have not met since the Cardinals posted an 18-11 win in 2018.

After Wednesday, Christopher Newport will return to action on Saturday at noon when the Captains wrap up the regular season with a Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference battle against No. 4 Salisbury at Jennings Family Stadium.
