FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- Following a historic performance during Christopher Newport's victory over Randolph-Macon last Wednesday,
Syd Guidi has been named the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Women's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week.
The weekly award is the first of Guidi's decorated career. She is also the second straight Captain to earn the offensive honor after
Kelsey Winters was celebrated for her work on April 3.
In the team's lone appearance last week, Guidi was nearly unstoppable while helping lead Christopher Newport to a 17-9 triumph at Randolph-Macon. Against the Yellow Jackets, she pocketed 13 draw controls, which set a new career-high and equaled the second-highest total in school history.
Along with her work on the draw, Guidi also took advantage of the extra possessions with a dominant performance on the offensive end. During the 60-minute showcase, she collected four goals and an assist. Her five total points established a new season-high for the third-year standout, while her four tallies marked her fifth straight multi-goal effort.
Putting her performance into perspective, Guidi became just the fifth player in school history to register at least five points and 10 draws in a single game. She joined an elite group alongside All-American Meaghan Galvin, Christopher Newport Hall of Famer Kaitlin Quigley, and former stars Julia Golden and Cat Leighty.
Making her presence felt immediately against Randolph-Macon, Guidi controlled six of the nine draws in the opening quarter while assisting on a game-tying goal in the sixth minute. Continuing her domination in the second stanza, she added four more draw controls and her first strike while helping the Captains secure an 8-5 halftime lead.
Never losing her touch, Guidi quickly collected the opening draw in the third quarter before adding her second goal with a dart that landed just before the shot-clock expired. Polishing off her historic showing in the final period, she came back with two more draws and a pair of goals over the final 15 minutes to help lock up the victory.
Overall this season, Guidi ranks third in the conference with 34 draw controls and fifth with 26 goals. In her career, the reigning All-Region performer has 85 strikes and 92 total points. Her 90 draws also place her 15th on the program's all-time charts.
Guidi and the rest of her teammates will return to action on Wednesday when Christopher Newport travels to St. Mary's (Md.) for a 4 p.m. tilt.
