No. 40 CNU Men's Tennis Captures 6-3 Win at Salisbury on Saturday Afternoon

SALISBURY, Md. -- The nationally-ranked Christopher Newport men's tennis team bounced back with a 6-3 win on the road Saturday afternoon, taking down Salisbury University (7-5). Eddy Porsmyr Hansen captured a win over a regionally-ranked opponent in singles action to highlight the day as CNU improved to 6-6 as a team.

Porsmyr Hansen slid up to play at No. 1 singles for the second time this year and acquitted himself nicely with a dominant victory over the 23rd-ranked singles player in the Atlantic South, Gianluca Beaujob. The Captains' veteran captured a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Beaujon to help highlight a strong team victory overall.

In doubles play, Nesh Kumaresan and Alec Strause escaped with one of their toughest wins of the season, 8-7 (3), on the top line. The dominant Captains' tandem defeated Beaujon and Jhayden Pappas in a hard-fought battle to extend their win streak to seven and improve to 11-1 overall this year.

CNU added another close win at No. 3 when Ahun Vodela and Vincent Truong outlasted their Salisbury counterparts by the same score, 8-7 (3). Vodela and Truong defeated Aron Bursztyn and Russell Willenborg to give the Captains a 2-1 lead.

In singles action, Porsmyr Hansen quickly put the Captains in position for the team win, needing just two more team points to get the victory. They would come on the final three lines of action, where Jake Dolphin, Truong, and Ashton Legum won, respectively.

At No. 4, Dolphin disposed of Bursztyn in three sets (6-4, 3-6, 6-1); at No. 5. Truong took down Christopher Catan in three (3-6, 6-3, 6-2); and finally, Legum earned a straight set win over Gavin Reagle at No. 6 (6-4, 7-5).

The Captains improve to 6-6 and shake off a four-match skid. CNU returns to action on Sunday afternoon, hosting the University of Lynchburg at 1:30 p.m.
