ORANGE, Calif. --
Alec Strause led the Captains efforts against nationally-ranked Chapman University on Thursday afternoon as No. 37 CNU men's tennis fell on the road, 6-3. Strause picked up a huge singles victory against No. 9 Caleb Wilkins and added a doubles win with partner
Nesh Kumaresan.
Strause snagged one of the top wins of his career in singles play, downing Wilkins by a final score of 7-5, 6-1. The CNU senior took down the Panthers number one, who was ranked second in the West region and ninth nationally in the latest ITA singles rankings.
Earlier in the matchup, Strause also paired with Kumaresan for a thrilling 8-7 win against Wilkins and his partner Mac Caldwell. It was the lone doubles point for CNU as
Edvard Porsmyr Hansen and
Ahun Vodela suffered an 8-3 loss at No. 2 and
Ashton Legum played with
Alex Seretis for an 8-5 setback at No. 3.
Porsmyr Hansen picked up the last team point of the day for CNU when he dispatched his opponent at No. 2, Kameron DeHart, by a final score of 6-4, 1-6, 6-2.
Vincent Truong won the first set against Danny Marsh at No. 6, but his Panthers counterpart rebounded for a 2-6, 6-0, 6-2 win.
Christopher Newport falls to 5-3 on the season and will return to action on Friday, March 10 at Redlands with match time slated for 3:00 p.m.
