WHITTIER, Calif. -- The nationally-ranked Christopher Newport men's tennis team penned a clean victory against the Poets of Whittier College (2-7) on Monday afternoon, capturing a 9-0 shutout win on the road. CNU improved to 5-2 on the season with their second straight win in the Golden State.

Four Captains finished the day with victories in both doubles and singles led by veterans Alec Strause and Edvard Porsmyr Hansen on the top two lines. Ahun Vodela and Nesh Kumaresan were the other two Captains to pick up a pair of wins.

In doubles play, the Captains earned the sweep with 8-3 wins at 1 and 3 and an 8-4 win at No. 2. Strause and Kumaresan paired up for a win over Luca Braan and Luuk van den Hoek on the top line; Vodela and Porsmyr Hansen matched up for the victory on the second line against Ahmed Amer and Mason Lebby. Finally, Ashton Legum and Alex Seretis downed Kieran Carroll and Luca De Bona at No. 3.

Moving into singles play, Strause and Kumaresan earned straight set victories for the Captains. At No. 1, Strause defeated Carroll (6-2, 6-3) and at No. 4, the C2C Player of the Week, Kumaresan, continued his strong play on the West Coast with win over Amer (6-0, 6-2). Porsmyr Hansen and Vodela had a tougher time earning their match sweeps, but pulled out three set wins for CNU.
