NEWPORT NEWS, Va. --
The Christopher Newport women's lacrosse team will face its second straight nationally-ranked battle on Wednesday at 4 p.m. when the Captains host No. 16 Chicago at Jennings Family Stadium.

Entering the midweek match-up, Christopher Newport has a 2-3 record, including a 1-3 mark at home. Meanwhile, Chicago boasts a 3-0 ledger with all three games coming on the road.

The Captains are coming off of an 18-7 setback against No. 11 York (Pa.) on Saturday. Against the Spartans, Christopher Newport trailed by only three entering halftime before the visitors stretched their lead with a commanding performance in the third stanza. During the game, Kendall Krause and Julia Iapicca both landed a pair of goals, while Celia Kelaher added three takeaways and Taylor Schoolar matched her season-high with seven saves.

During Saturday's bout, Kelsey Winters also recorded her 150th career assist. That tied the all-time program record, matching the mark established by Christopher Newport Hall of Famer Meghan Harkey from 2008-11. Winters' total also places her third among all active players in the NCAA.

Overall this season, Winters ranks 20th in the country with 14 assists, while the team slots 25th in takeaways-per-game (13.80). Among the top standouts on the defensive side, Emma Jackson has 13 caused turnovers, while Kelaher ranks second with eight. Maddie Rusinko has also forced seven miscues and secured 10 ground balls while starring on the back line.

Chicago boasts an equally stingy defensive unit this year. The Maroons rank fifth in the nation in takeaways-per-game (16.33) and save percentage (.614). On an individual level, Lizzie Huesman has a team-high seven caused turnovers, while Sophie Lynn has six. Meanwhile, Rachel Keefe sports a .604 save percentage and 6.18 goals-against-average, while Lulu Hardy leads the squad with 10 goals and 11 points.

The Maroons are coming off of a 7-5 victory over Mary Washington on Sunday. Against the Eagles, Zoe Torok converted a pair of free-position shots, while Camille Kuwana added two points of her own. On the back end, Keefe came through with 16 saves, and Huesman forced five turnovers and collected seven ground balls.

Wednesday's bout will mark just the second meeting between the two programs. Chicago won last year's tilt, 15-5, in Illinois. Blake Hopkins and Syd Guidi both scored for the Captains, while Torok led the Maroons with five points, including a hat-trick.

After Wednesday's game, Christopher Newport will return to action on Saturday at noon when the squad hosts No. 14 Messiah.
