CLAREMONT, Calif. -- The 27th-ranked Christopher Newport women's tennis team fell to 1-8 on the season on Saturday after a rain-shortened match ended in favor of host and second-ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (6-1) by a final score of 4-0.
The teams agreed to play doubles as a single point and then play the match only up until one of the team's had clinched, to work around the poor weather. In doubles, CMS captured a sweep including 6-1 wins at both 1 and 2 while also earning a 6-3 win at No. 3.Â
The three points in singles that clinched the match came at No. 2, No. 3, and No. 5.
Tessa Trate fell to Katherine Wurster (6-1, 6-0);
Mia Linam dropped a match to Ella Brissett (6-3, 6-0), and
Kendra Womack lost to Lindsay Eisenman (6-1, 6-1), respectively.Â
The Captains will return home after dropping three to teams ranked in the top-20 nationally on their annual spring break trip to California. CNU will return to action on Saturday, March 25 as they take on Virginia Wesleyan at home at 3:00 pm.
