HAVERFORD, Pa. -- Following a back-and-forth battle with No. 8 Washington & Lee on Wednesday, the Christopher Newport women's lacrosse team will face another top-25 showdown on Saturday at noon when the Captains head to No. 24 Haverford for a non-conference test at Swan Field.
Making the squad's first road trip of the year, Christopher Newport currently sits at 1-1 overall this season. Meanwhile, Haverford is 1-0 after knocking off Cabrini in the team's home opener on Tuesday.

Christopher Newport is coming off of a hard-fought 11-8 setback against No. 8 Washington & Lee on Wednesday. After trading rallies in the middle of the game, the two squads found themselves deadlocked at eight late in the third quarter. Unfortunately, the Generals were able to scratch out the game's final three goals to prevail in the end.
Despite the setback,
Emma Jackson made some history while registering seven takeaways in the game. That equaled the second-highest total in program history and established a new benchmark against a top-25 foe. Her fifth caused turnover against W&L also marked the 50th of her career, making her just the 15th Captain to reach that milestone.
In addition to her work on the defensive end, Jackson also collected four ground balls and four draw controls. With that performance, she joined former legends Sam Wettengel, Victoria Betterly, Julia Golden, and Kristyn Hankins as the only Captains to record at least four takeaways, four draws, and four rollers in a single game.
Along with Jackson's work against the Generals,
Julia Iapicca contributed her second straight hat-trick, including back-to-back free-position darts that knotted the game in the third quarter.
Syd Guidi also added a pair of tallies, while
Kelsey Winters collected three points, including two assists.
Sloane McDonald and
Brookelyn Morrison also found the back of the cage for the Captains.
Haverford comes into Saturday's bout after upending Cabrini, 16-15, during an overtime marathon on Tuesday. Avenging a loss against the same squad that ended their 2022 season in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, the Fords capitalized on a free-position strike by Tiffany Mikulis in the extra session to seal the victory. Mikulis finished the game with four goals and eight draw controls, while Sam Silverman and Katharine Ference added five points apiece.
Headlining the veteran portion of the roster, Ference is a reigning All-Conference and All-Region selection after helping lead Haverford to an appearance in the national playoffs last year for the first time since 1991. She and Silverman started all 18 games during the 2022 campaign, while senior Lauren Kinne cracked the lineup in 17 of those contests as a standout on the defensive unit.
Saturday's matchup will mark the fifth all-time meeting between the two programs with the Fords holding a 3-1 edge in the series. Last year, Haverford picked up a 13-9 win in Newport News as Silverman landed five tallies for the visitors, while Winters contributed six points for the Captains.
After this weekend, Christopher Newport will kick off a seven-game homestand beginning on March 4 at 1 p.m. against Shenandoah.
