Jahn Hines, Trey Barber, and Matthew Brodie Receive Conference Honors from C2C

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Three members of the Christopher Newport University men's basketball program received All-Conference honors Wednesday as the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) released its yearly awards. Junior All-American Jahn Hines and junior Trey Barber were named first team, and fifth-year senior Matthew Brodie was selected to the second team.

Hines, from Norfolk, was named the Player of the Week in the C2C six times this year and is averaging 17.1 points and 5.4 rebounds per game this season for Christopher Newport. He has led the Captains in scoring in 13 of 25 games this season, and has recorded two double-doubles while also topping the team in assists with 70. Hines was named third team All-American last year by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC), and was selected a pre-season All-American before the start of the season. He was also a first team C2C selection last year when he was named the Player of the Year in the conference, and was the MVP of the C2C Tournament at the Freeman Center a year ago.

Barber, from Woodbridge, Va., was honored during the season as the Player of the Week by the C2C. He is presently averaging 11.7 points per game and a team-high 7.5 rebounds per contest. He has recorded five double-doubles this season for the Captains. Barber is currently sixth in the country with 59 blocked shots in 20 games played (2.95 per game) after finishing fourth in the country in blocks per game last season, when he averaged 3.53 per contest (106 in 30 games). Barber was also a first team pick last year in the C2C, and was selected the Defensive Player of the Year by the league.

Brodie, a product of Fairfax, Va., has been a standout for the Captains offensively and defensively, and is scoring 11.7 points per game as well as pulling down 4.1 rebounds per contest. He is the only CNU player to start all 25 games of the regular season, and scored 20 points in four different games. Brodie posted his career-high, 22 points, vs. Mary Washington in last season's Championship game of the C2C Tournament at the Freeman Center.

The Captains, 22-5 on the year, were named the top seed heading to the C2C Men's Basketball Championship later this week. CNU, the third-ranked team in the nation, heads to Santa Cruz, California, and will play on Friday at 2 p.m. Eastern time in the semi-final round against the winner of the host school, UC Santa Cruz, and Warren Wilson, who will meet on Thursday in the quarter-final round.

Christopher Newport is the defending C2C Champion, after winning the conference tournament last year at the Freeman Center.
