NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The nationally-ranked Christopher Newport men's tennis team continued it's dominant start to the 2023 season with a 9-0 shutout win over Hampden-Sydney College (1-1) on Friday night. The Captains improved to 3-0 and stayed perfect in doubles play through the first three matches.

CNU is 9-0 in doubles action this Spring while improving to 16-2 with a perfect run through singles against the Tigers. The Captains improve to 9-4 all-time against Hampden-Sydney while winning their eighth straight in the series.

Opening up the win was one of three CNU players to pick up a pair of wins on the day, Alex Seretis. He raced to an 8-0 win with partner Ahun Vodela at No. 2 doubles, defeating Casey Coffey and Matt Kendrick. Seretis captured a singles win at No. 5 with a victory over Henry Singleton (6-3, 6-4).

Next up, the other two who swept their matches on the day gave the Captains a 2-0 lead as Edvard Porsmyr Hansen played with Vincent Truong at No. 3 doubles for an 8-3 win over Taylor Fox and Henry Singleton. Truong would add the match-clinching victory at No. 3 singles, downing Kendrick (7-5, 6-3), while Porsmyr Hansen moved up to No. 1 for a win against Barrett Foster (6-2, 6-4).

After the win at No. 3 doubles, the top tandem would finish out the doubles sweep as Nesh Kumaresan and Alec Strause matched up for an 8-3 victory over Foster and Dillon McReynolds.
