FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- Nearly four decades after completing one of the most decorated careers in Christopher Newport men's soccer history, Gerard Mosley adds another honor to his impressive ledger after being elected to the USA South Athletics Hall of Fame on Wednesday.
Mosley is the 17th Christopher Newport former student-athlete, coach, or administrator to join the conference Hall of Fame since it's inaugural class in 2010.
From 1983 to 1986, Mosley was a standout athlete on the pitch for Christopher Newport men's soccer. During his tenure, he became the first player to garner first team All-Region honors all four years of his career and to this day, remains the only CNU men's soccer athlete to accomplish that feat. He also became the program's first men's soccer All-American, earning second team honors in 1985 before collecting a first team All-American certificate in 1986.
It was during the 1986 season that Mosley helped lead the Captains to the program's first NCAA Tournament appearance. During that campaign, he put away six game-winning goals, which still stands second all-time. The talented defender started all 80 games of his career, a run that held the record for over 20 years and still sits in the top-five all-time at Christopher Newport.
Following his outstanding playing career, Mosley stayed on at Christopher Newport College as an assistant coach for two seasons. From there, he set off on a decorated career in the United States military, spending 25 years serving the country before retiring as a Colonel.
Mosley was joined in the USA South Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2023 by Methodist men's basketball star Jason Childers, Maryville baseball standout Nick Dean, a four-year women's lacrosse student-athlete at Meredith Carlee Joseph, and Jack Nicklaus Award winner Addison Lambeth from Huntingdon.
These individuals will be officially celebrated during a ceremony in the summer. The specific date and location of the event is yet to be determined. To view and learn more about the latest USA South Hall of Fame class,
