NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Men's Basketball action will fill the Freeman Center Thursday and Friday as Christopher Newport University hosts the Captains Shootout. The action begins at 3:00 p.m. Thursday when NJ City takes on Stevenson, followed by the Captains of Christopher Newport vs. SUNY Old Westbury at 5:00 p.m. Play will continue on Friday with the third-place game at 3:00 p.m. followed by the championship game at 5:00 p.m.

The Captains are 9-3 on the year and are coming off back-to-back victories on the road before Christmas. CNU traveled to Wilson College (Pa.) and Kean University (NJ) and registered 19 and 12-point victories.The games concluded a busy stretch of four games in nine days for John Krikorian's squad, and the Captains recorded a 3-1 mark in the stretch. 

The Panthers of SUNY Old Westbury enter play on Thursday with an 0-9 record on the season. This will be the third all-time meeting of the programs, and the Captains have won both previous games in the series.CNU and Old Westbury first met in a holiday tournament in Phoenix, Arizona, in 2008, and the Captains recorded a 96-86 victory. The Panthers traveled to Newport News to play CNU in the Captains Shootout in 2016, and CNU posted an 86-41 triumph.

NJ City has a record of 3-8 entering the Captains Shootout, and will take on a Stevenson squad that is 5-4 so far. It will mark the first meeting ever of the schools.

Tickets for the games will be available at the Freeman Center Ticket Office prior to tip off. Captains men's basketball is broadcast live on the Christopher Newport/Pepsi Radio Network (Xtra 99.1 FM) with the pre-game show beginning at 4:40 p.m. Thursday.
