FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - Christopher Newport hit the road on Friday night for the first of three matches this weekend. In the weekend opener, the Captains fell in three sets to No. 22 Mary Washington on Friday night. 

First Set (Mary Washington 25-16)

Alyssa Dozier started the match with three kills in the first set as she fought to keep the Captains level with Mary Washington. She brought CNU within four with her third kill that made the score 19-15, but Mary Washington took six of the final seven points to win the first set in this one.

Second Set (Mary Washington 25-20)

CNU scored four in a row to open the second set including a kill from Dozier and a service ace from Megan James. Macy Burk hit two kills to keep the Captains ahead 9-7 and later blocked two attacks to put CNU ahead 14-13. But the Mary Washington attack was able to break through in the latter half of the second set and help the Eagles claim the second set.

Third Set (Mary Washington 25-18)

Two kills from Megan James helped the Captains open the third set with a 6-5 lead. But Mary Washington countered and scored 13 of the next 15 points to open up a 18-8 lead. The Captains responded well as kills from Dozier and Kyla McIntyre helped CNU take seven of the next ten points and cut the UMW lead to just six. But the Eagles managed to close out the third set and take the match.

• Alyssa Dozier led the Captains with seven kills and tied with Macy Burk for the team lead of three blocks. 
• The Captains were accurate in their serves on Friday with just six service errors, tied for their lowest total this year.
