No. 1 Christopher Newport Women's Soccer to Take On Host Mary Washington in C2C Semifinals Friday Morning

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- The top-ranked and top-seeded Christopher Newport women's soccer team will begin its quest for a third consecutive Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference title on Friday morning as they will play the host and #4-seeded University of Mary Washington (8-8-1) at 11:00 a.m. The Eagles advanced to the semifinal round with a 4-0 win over Pratt Institute in Thursday afternoon's first round action.

CNU carries an unbeaten 15-0-1 overall record into the C2C Tournament while also riding a record-shattering 61-game unbeaten streak. Mary Washington got back to .500 with the win on Thursday and are the last team to defeat Christopher Newport in the conference tournament back in 2019. Led by C2C Coach of the Year Jamie Gunderson, the Captains have won four straight conference tournament games since, capturing the 2022 and 2023 league titles.

Heading into Friday's third matchup of the season, Christopher Newport owns a 17-5-2 overall record in the all-time series against the Eagles. CNU has won five straight including a pair of victories this year; the Captains won 5-0 on the road and captured a 1-0 victory at home on a rain-soaked Captains Field on October 14.

Members of the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference since 2013 when it was the Capital Athletic Conference, the Captains have been the top seed in the postseason tournament nine out of ten seasons it has been held. CNU has won five of the last six conference tournament titles including each of the last two under Gunderson.

This season, C2C Defensive Player of the Year Reanna Slater has led the way for a dominant defense that has allowed just two goals, both penalty kicks, in 16 games this season. The Captains lead the nation in goals-against average this season and also rank second in the country in shutout percentage with 14 total clean sheets. Slater and C2C Rookie of the Year Amy Sidaway in goal have helped keep opponents off the scoreboard for nearly 830 consecutive minutes heading into Friday's semifinal round.

Mary Washington has been led by freshman goalkeeper Sydney Alexander with a 0.95 goals-against average and three shutouts this season. Offensively, freshman Maci Landel has scored a team-high 11 points on four goals and three assists while taking a team-high 22 shots this season.

For fans unable to make the trip to the Battleground Complex in Fredericksburg, Va., the game will be presented live online in a video webcast and through live stats -- both links are available at CNUsports.com.
